So my first question to Tom was “where Is Lompoc?” His answer was “By Vandenberg Air Force base”. Not helpful…so for those geographically challenged like me, it’s north of Santa Barbara.
We’re camping with the Breezy Elks group, staying at the Elks Lodge. I really didn’t know what to expect, but it was just as it sounded, camping spaces in a parking lot! We were with good friends and so it really didn’t matter where we were.
Before leaving home we thought we smelled propane so we shut it off and decided to figure it out once we got there. We’ll after Tom and most of the rest of the “men folk” took a look, Frank had a device that detects where gas is leaking from, it was decided that one of the hose was leaking. Luckily there was an RV store right next door to the Elks Lodge. Tom and Frank walked over and had to order the part, it would be in the next day. I had to bake chicken wings for dinner so we turned the propane on long enough for me to cook them then shut it off again.
Friday morning Tom made biscuits and gravy with chicken fried steak. The gravy cooked too fast and we burned it. We were not deterred and made a 2nd batch that turned out perfect! Although not on my diet, I tried it and it was delicious
Later some of our group walked over to the “Wine Ghetto” which has over 20 tasting rooms! We had a great time, I bought some wine to share with Brigette and Kristin and some fabulous truffle cheese,
Luckily we didn’t have to cook dinner because the hose was NOT the issue, Mr. Google suggested it might be the regulator and the men folk all agreed, so the rest of the trip we would be cooking outside on Tom’s Camp Chef. Friday night was cook your own steak at the lodge and we went there for dinner with our entire group.
Saturday we just hung out during the morning then got a corn hole game started. No one had ever played before and there were plenty of laughs, but everyone seemed to have a good time. Saturday night was pot luck and I made Italian sausage with onions and peppers. A bit of a challenge outside, but it worked.
Next weekend is Lompoc’s Flower Festival so Saturday was the coronation of the Flower Queen. All the people coming into the Lodge were in formal attire and we were having a potluck on the patio. Fun fact…Tess, who worked at the one of tasting rooms was Flower Queen a couple of years ago, she said she gets free Shirley Temples for life at the Lodge! Now that she’s an adult she orders a Dirty Shirley!
Sunday morning we packed up and went to breakfast with some of the other Breezys before heading home, fun trip!
