Palm desert

On Thursday, March 17 we left for a short trip with the Breezy Elks to Palm Desert. It was a short, uneventful drive and we arrived at the Joshua Tree/Palm Desert KOA shortly before 1:00. While checking in we met some new Breezy members as well as some old friends.

The site was nice, but it had large gravel, that made out trailer continue to slide even after chocking the wheels. We finally put rubber chocks and the usual z-type chocks on and were able to get it leveled and set. Needless to say, we were a bit “hangry” during the process so had lunch before going to meet up with the rest of our friends!

On Friday we went to Pioneer town in Yucca and met Susan and Larry Flickinger at Pappy and Harriet’s. They have recently sold their home and are living in a Class A, so of course we had to drive to 29 Palms and see their new “home”. It is beautiful and to be honest, I am a little envious, especially with the difficulty we had leveling this trip and how theirs is automatic! It was so much fun catching up. Of course we have all lived in La Verne for 40 years, but get together when they move out to 29 Palms for a few months. They will also be heading east to Iowa, but we will miss them by a week or so, as we’ll be leaving Iowa on May 2, and they will start heading that way about then.

After a dinner of hot dogs and brats, potato salad, pasta salad, and baked beans, Tom Randall broke out a game of Left, Right Center. We always play a round after Bunko with a $3 buy-in. Tonight, we played with poker chips and of course I won 2 games! It’s just not fair!

Saturday we stayed around camp, played a round of miniature golf with some of the Breezeys and had a pot luck dinner that night. It was a good thing they reserved a room indoors for Saturday night, as the wind picked up in the afternoon and blew really hard all night.

We all played Left, Right, Center again prior to ending the evening and returning to our rigs.

We packed up and came home on Sunday, although the wind was still blowing pretty hard, it subsided by the time we got to Cabazon.
