We left home on Friday, April 15 for a six-week adventure! Our plan is to go from California across the southern part of the country and up to Iowa and Minnesota to visit cousins. We’ll then start our “National Park Tour” including Badlands, Yellowstone, Zion and Arches, we’ll finish up in Pahrump, Nevada with Tom taking a four-day defensive handgun shooting course and me laying by the pool, drinking wine, and shopping… a win-win! I’m going to attempt to document the trip at each stop along the way.
First Stop – Lake Havasu, Arizona
We left La Verne around 8:30 a.m and drove to Lake Havasu, when pulling a trailer it always takes longer, and we arrive around 1:30. We had decided to stay at the Elks Lodge in Lake Havasu and found the Camp Host and checked in. Apparently it is the end of “snowbird season” and the camp host was pulling out the next day and the place was pretty empty. Since we were only there for one night, we didn’t unhook the trailer from the truck and simply took a walk and ended up at the Elks Lodge about 3:00.
At the Lodge, we sat at the bar and ordered drinks (of course!). The couple next to us, Bob and Maureen had ordered almost the exact same drinks and we struck up a conversation. They were delightful, having met, married and lived in Alaska the 2nd part of their lives. They each had 2 children of their own and then eventually had one of together. They moved to Lake Havasu about 15 years ago and seem to know everyone who came into the lodge!
They were going home for dinner, but we decided to eat at the lodge. The dining room was full, so the hostess asked if we would mind joining another couple – OF COURSE NOT! We met Wayne and Sue and they are also new to RVing, so we had a great conversation.
Back to the trailer after dinner, a movie and off to bed, we need to get an early start in the morning as we head up to Show Low, Arizona, which is over 300 miles away. That converts to over 6 hours pulling our RV!

Looks like fun!
