After months of preparation for our epic trip, which included Tom’s new “Moose Gard” on the front of the truck along with a compressor and an air horn, which he insists is important! The family came over on Sunday June 4th, after Elisa’s baby shower and we had dinner and said our good-byes until August 30! We are sorry to miss the birth of the 2nd Latourelle girl but will are eager to see the photos when Mila arrives.
To help Peyton understand how long we would be gone I made a “trip chain” with one link to cut off for each day we were gone. We’ll see if this helps, but it really hit me just how long 83 days will be!
Today, June 9, 2023, we left home for our most epic adventure yet! We set out on a 12-week trip to Alaska. So, before we begin, many thanks to those friends and family who stepped up and are helping watch and/or stay at the house, taking care of Bomber, as he certainly could not make this trip and volunteering to make sure everything runs smoothly at home until we get back!
We are now at our first stop in Mesquite, Nevada. It is also the first Mobile RV tech we had to call! When hooking up, Tom noticed that the electrical cord hooking the trailer to the truck was broken and wires were exposed. Although it still works, we wanted to get it fixed prior to getting into wet weather! The good news? The park we are staying at has an on-site RV Repairman! He fixed it and we’ll be good to go tomorrow morning!
We will spend one night only in Mesquite, Provo, Utah and Idaho Falls, Idaho. When we get to Helena, MT we will stay two nights, get the oil changed on the truck and shop for any needed items. Although at this point, I can’t imagine what we will need four days after leaving home!
We will meet with the rest of our caravan on Wednesday, June 14 and I’ll probably pick up this blog there.
As a note, we are out of town, we haven’t left the planet! Feel free to call, text or email us just to say hi and catch up if you want. The hardest part of this trip for me will be not seeing friends and family for 12 weeks, although we will make new friends along the way!
On Sunday Kristin asked us what we most looking forward to on our trip. Tom said seeing wildlife and I said the same. The more I think about it I’m really looking forward to the beautiful landscape along the ALCAN Highway as well as making new friends which we will probably stay in touch with for life.
Enjoy a couple of photos of the start of our trip!
